How many of us can truly say that we are being ourselves most of the time? In this article, I explore the idea that it takes focus for us to truly be ourselves in order to connect at a deeper level.
Why it’s hard to be yourself?
In a word, or two, because humans – at least some humans – are easily convinced that we don’t matter. We also fall prey to the inner critic – which says that we aren’t good enough and that convinces us to stay ‘small’ because to do otherwise would be to risk failure.
Who would you be and what would you do if you were to be yourself?
The truth is, that to really be yourself you actually have to know how you want to show up on life’s stage. Having decided that, then creating a mindset for yourself that always knows that you matter, is kind, when things go wrong, and is willing to take risks and to experience failure, knowing that this is all part of the road to making a difference.
What’s really important?
When we are unsure about ourselves or what we really want in our life, it is easy to become distracted and to lose sight of the ‘wood from the trees’. Where we decide to place our attention, is essential if we are to avoid being caught up in the ‘doing’ of life, rather than responding to what is really important.
Paying attention, focusing, also means attending to what we need to shift – hearing the messages that come through during our quiet times and through others, however, difficult that may some times be.
Over to you…what stops you from being yourself? It would be great if you would share your thoughts by leaving a comment in the box below.
